The Essential Buddhism Course |

Please resubmit any query using the new email contact. Would you like to spend some time investigating the essential teachings and background to Buddhism in a more structured way? Many of us have read books and listened to talks about Buddhism but are a little hazy about the historical roots and the essential teachings of this great religious tradition. Starting in early September 2003, we organised a series of linked sessions to form an Essential Buddhism Course. The course ran over 16 weeks with one week to introduce a subject and the subsequent week providing further opportunity to discuss it. Course notes were provided and each session refered to reading material which those taking part could read prior to meeting and discussing the theme at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery. The course aimed to present a good appreciation of Buddhist history, teachings and practice, and was taught by people who have been exploring and practising Theravādan (Forest Sangha) teachings for many years. The course took place in the Bodhinyana Room at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery, Great Gaddesden, Hemel Hempstead – from 7.30 till 9.30pm on Wednesday evenings The programme and course sessions (S) were as follows:
